2017.2 Service Update
November 2017
Release Notes
We're pleased to announce the following updates and new features in our 2017.2 Service Update.
Workplace Online
Administrators can now resend a user's account activation email in the User details view and the Connection Details view.
We've added a Reset 2FA button to the Edit a user and Edit a connection pages so you perform a quick reset without navigating to Policy Profiles.
Previously, file names exceeding a certain length were truncated when displayed in lists. Now rows can expand, when necessary, to display the full file name.
In addition, on the File Detail page, the full name of the file at the top of the page is displayed in smaller text if it is over a certain length.
Search results now display the entire path to the matching item, which makes it easier for you to distinguish between similar search results.
This new feature allows you to set the maximum upload and download speeds to and from the Workplace service for your Workplace Desktop users. Users can, via the Workplace app Network tab, reduce transfer speed, but they cannot increase it beyond the limit you've set here.
Throttle control settings apply to Workplace Desktop 7.2 and later only. These settings do not affect Workplace Server.
This allows you to manage your bandwidth to avoid network saturation.
For more information, refer to Select Policies.
On the new Backup Exclusions tab of the Policy Defaults page, you can now control the extensions and file paths that are excluded from backups. Files types and paths that are excluded will not be backed up for any users on your team.
We've already selected, by default, the file types and paths we recommend that you exclude in order to avoid excess and unnecessary use of storage and bandwidth. These exclusion lists have been customized for both Mac and Windows operating systems.
For more information, please refer to Policy Defaults.
Workplace Desktop 7.2
Windows users may now back up the entire root directory (e.g. C: or D: drive) on their device. This comprehensive backup will ensure complete data backup and recovery when necessary. This feature is available for both Workplace Desktop and Workplace Server.
Workplace now supports backup of files in AppData folder. For more information concerning what can and cannot be backed up, please refer to How backups work.
When you add a folder to back up via the Manage Backups feature on the Workplace app Settings/Preferences window in Workplace Desktop for Windows, a progress bar will now display, providing a visual indicator of the addition.
A new Windows security certificate has been issued for the latest versions of Workplace Desktop and Server, and may result in the display of a warning popup from Windows Defender. If the popup displays, please click the Run Anyway button.
Workplace Desktop for Mac users can now easily access Workplace log files, as well as other Workplace Desktop instance information with a simple right-click on the Find Your Workplace app log files window.
When you open a file that someone else has locked, SmartBadge will now let you know who locked it and inform you that any changes you save will result in a conflict. Find out how to SmartBadge
Workplace Server
NOTE This enhancement requires Workplace Server 7.2 or later.
Workplace Server now supports project sync directly from Workplace Online. The new Project Sync feature on the Server details: Project Status page of Workplace Online allows administrators to perform the same functions as you can perform from the Workplace Server Workplace Server: Folder Sync tab. Administrators can:
- Create a new project in the Workplace service from an existing local folder.
- Sync a project from the Workplace service to a local folder of your choosing.
- Merge a project with a locally stored copy, which is particularly useful in rare instances where a project must be reconnected with a locally stored copy, such as after a reinstallation of Workplace Server.
Bug Fixes
In Workplace Manager, we have corrected the Devices export function to improve consistency between the exported file and the screen display.
Previously, users with full access to a project experienced unexpected syncing behavior after renaming a project locally. Now, when users with full access to a project rename the project, the change will take effect locally and the project will continue to properly sync.
If you delete a folder, then undelete it and a folder with the same name exists, the system will now prompt you for a new name.
